Accidents at first concert in Japan
The boys got puzzled by the differences between Korea and Japan.
---- I went to see your performance at Ryogoku Kokugikan on December 8th last year. What did you all think about the first concert in Japan?
Taec :
We enjoyed it of course, but the members got very nervous. Actually, there was an accident when Junsu hurt his leg in the backstage and he couldn’t even move.
Junsu: Oh, do we have to talk about this now? (laugh) On stage we helped each other and got over it. And Chansung had a toothache (laugh), unexpected things happened a lot.
---- What was the Japanese fans’ reaction to the concert?
Junho: Even though for us it was the first concert in Japan, most of the fans had penlights and I was touched by the fact they were there for us.
---- Fans’ choreography was perfect, right?
Wooyoung: Yeah, we were quite surprised about that too.
---- Besides behavior in concerts, did you find any differences between the Korean fans and the Japanese fans?
Chan: In Korea, fans usually scream randomly when their favorite songs start. Or they call the member’s name. They shout whenever they want to.
Taec: On the other hand, the Japanese fans are a bit quiet and they watch us warmly. They are waiting gently and thinking [What song is coming up next?]. I think that’s because many of them saw our stage for the first time.
---- What did you do for the preparation, when it was decided to debut in Japan?
Wooyoung: Once the debut was determined, I started learning Japanese. And I watched many Japanese dramas to know the Japanese culture.
Taec: We showed our power and manly sides in Korea, but I want to show our different side in Japan.
---- For example?
Taec: Not only the powerful and strong stages, I want the fans to see our friendliness. I want the male fans watch our performance and think “I wanna be like them.”
---- But, in Kokugikan, all of you were just like super heroes. It seemed like you came to save the girls from this gloomy world.
2PM: Whoa! Thank you very much!! (laugh)
Nichkhun: That’s such a nice compliment!
“2PM way” is their power and energy
Herbivorous beast is now trendy?!
---- Currently in Japan, the quiet, kind and androgynous “herbivorous boys” are on the increase. We need someone very strong just like you guys to outweigh that.
2PM: I see.
---- Not only your strong bodies, do you have strong hearts to protect ladies?
2PM: (strongly) Of course!
---- On the other hand, when it comes to talking, you are shy and innocent. I think this difference in between your charms is also attractive to your fans.
Nichkhun: Thank you!
Wooyoung: I am really happy to hear you say that.
---- Are you behaving differently on purpose, by any chance? (laugh)
Taec: No way! (laugh) It’s so hard to do that on purpose.
Nichkhun: We concentrate on our performances on the stage, and I think that is why we give powerful and strong impression to the viewers. But we are always like this, very natural behind the stage.
---- Then, what do you think are the main aspects of 2PM?
Junsu: First, our powerfulness. I want everyone to enjoy our energetic performances.
Taec: We are very happy if you receive the energy from us.
---- As you mentioned before, you want to show your friendliness, will you change the way you act towards your Korean fans and Japanese fans?
Taec: No, because 2PM is 2PM.
Junho: Wait, Chansung wants to say something. (laugh)
Chan: Huh? Me? I think it depends on the tracks how we express ourselves, because each track has different features. I think we will change the track images from the former ones.
---- Do you, the six of you, talk about your future together?
Wooyoung: At first, we need to know what the Japanese fans want from us. For example, if you like me and give me a nickname, I will use it. I want to listen to the people’s impressions these days.
Someone is in charge of the sexiness, someone is funny
2PM’s characteristics are very unique
---- Can you tell me your strong points in music and performance field?
Nichkhun: For me, it’s the instruments. I like singing while playing the guitar. I want to show a different side of me every time I do a solo stage.
Taec: Since I am in charge of rap parts, I am good at rap. Even though I am not very good, I play the piano when I do solo. I will work hard on it because I should become a little bit better. (laugh)
Junsu: Because I am the lead vocalist, I love singing. I do rap, composing and mixing. I hope to show you my solo performance soon.
Wooyoung : In my case, even though it’s not a strong point, I love dance. That’s all. (laugh)
2PM: (laughs)
Wooyoung : Ah, I put so much effort in break dance; I think I am good at it.
Junho: Acrobatic dance. I really love exercise and I practice dancing very hard. There was this moment when Taecyeon and Chansung were eating a lot and working out and getting muscles, while I was into the dance practice. I want show you better acrobatic moves.
Chan: Well, as far as I am concert, it’s the performances at concerts.
Junsu: He is in charge of being very sexy. (laugh)
Chan: (laugh) I try to be funny when Taecyeon is not around.
Junsu: Chansung is the shy maknae.
---- Then, do you have some stories about how you helped each other to get over some problems?
Junsu: We can’t have enough time to talk about all of the stories!
---- Then, how about when you feel lonely living in the dorm?
Wooyoung: Ah, we gather and talk about many things.
---- What if you have a fight? Who do you think would win?
Taec: I think the person who has a strong mind and will would win.
Wooyoung: I think each of us is strong.
Junsu: But I don’t want to imagine us having a fight.
---- Then, when you have a quarrel, who wins?
Junho: We basically don’t have quarrels, because we think we can understand each other through a discussion.
Nichkhun: The end of the last years was the hardest period ever since we became the members of 2PM. We had been recording and shooting for 3 weeks and had only 3 hours of sleep every day. Taecyeon and Wooyoung were shooting drama at the same time.
Wooyoung: Yes, I had to memorize the script too, it was very hard.
Taec: We got over those busy days and calmed down a little bit, and busy days come again… We keep doing it, don’t we?
Chan : Anyway, the hardest day was December 31st 2 years ago. After the MBC’s shooting, we did the [Tik Tok] recording. I remember we were really busy back then.
Junho: I thought I slept in the studio’s underground room, but I found myself in our dorm when I woke up. I don’t even know when I came back to the dorm. (laugh)
Junsu: Yeah, I remember that! (laugh)
Chan: We helped each other a lot. When track was ranked 1st on Korea’s online chart, I was so happy.
